Self-suppression of axial mode hopping by intracavity second-harmonic generation.

چکیده
Intracavity second-harmonic generation (SHG) in a single-frequency laser has an associated loss for adjacent nonlasing modes, from sum-frequency generation, that is greater than the loss from SHG for the lasing mode. Mode hopping is thereby suppressed, as the lasing mode dominates neighboring modes. We have investigated this behavior in a Nd:YAG laser with LBO intracavity frequency doubler, obtaining frequency tuning over more than 80 axial mode spacings, without mode hopping.

Methods of passive and active mode locking using intracavity optical frequency mixing.
The mode-locking technique based on intracavity second-harmonic generation is extended to sum- and difference-frequency generation. Simultaneous passive mode locking of two different types of laser in a combined cavity is thus possible. By using the same principle, a laser may be actively mode locked by injection of a pulse train from another mode-locked laser.

Simultaneous optical parametric oscillation and intracavity second-harmonic generation based on a hexagonally poled lithium tantalate is reported. Both the optical parametric oscillation and the cascaded noncollinear second-order harmonic generation processes reach a high efficiency. A variety of possible self-doubling optical parametric oscillation processes indicate this hexagonally poled lit...
متن کاملObservation of spatial modulation instability in intracavity second-harmonic generation.
We report the observation of spatial instabilities in singly resonant intracavity second-harmonic generation. Self-focusing as well as spatially ordered near- and far-field structures are observed. Experimental results are compared with mean-field analysis as well as three-dimensional numerical simulations.
متن کاملComputer controlled intracavity SHG in a cw ring dye laser.
A tunable computer controlled UV laser spectrometer utilizing intracavity second harmonic generation of a cw ring dye laser is described. The spectrometer yields broadband (~100-GHz) second harmonic outputs of up to 30 mW and narrowband (~100-MHz) single-mode UV outputs of up to 10 mW continuously tunable over intervals of 3200 GHz in the 285-311-nm wavelength range.
متن کاملHigh-power picosecond Nd:GdVO4 laser mode locked by SHG in periodically poled stoichiometric lithium tantalate.
Periodically poled stoichiometric lithium-tantalate is used for mode locking of a diode-pumped Nd:GdVO(4) laser by intracavity second-harmonic generation. Stable and self-starting operation is observed achieving average output powers of up to 5 W at a pulse-repetition rate of 107 MHz. The obtained pulse durations range from 6.5 ps at maximum output power down to 3.2 ps at 1.4 W.
